Forget Hyper Scape, Ubisoft’s San Francisco branch is preparing a completely different multiplayer shooter called Tom Clancy’s XDefiant. This is a fast arena 6v6 format shooter with a “reasonably fast” TTK, based on class conflict. And the classes are from The Division, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell.
From Ghost Recon we have the Wolves class, from the Division come Cleaners and Outcasts, and Splinter Cell lives through the Echelon class. Each class has its own skills and gadgets that the team uses. Each player can carry primary and secondary weapons, grenades and gadgets, and has a special attack depending on the class the player is playing. By respawn the class can be changed without restriction.
The maps in the game will also be “inspired” by other Ubisoft series from Tom Clancy’s milieu. In pre-launch testing, the game will have ten maps, 7 arena types and 3 linear types. Of the modes, three modes are promised for arena maps: Domination, Ringleader and Upload, while linear maps have two modes: Escort and Zone Control.
The game is powered by the Snowdrop engine (the same one used in Division titles), and we will play it on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X / S platforms. XDefiant will be in free-to-play format, and the first tests on PC will start next month.
